Modern Brush Calligraphy
With Janet Murata

– Artwork by Janet Murata
The Calligrapher’s Guild of Manitoba is pleased to host a Modern Calligraphy Workshop with Janet Murata.
Modern Calligraphy is an extremely accessible style of calligraphy, offering students of all levels a path to mastering beautiful handwriting. It uses modern tools to adapt traditional scripts, with an emphasis on creative expression over rigid historical rules.
The versatility of this script has made it popular for wedding invitations, name plates, gift tags, and personalized greeting cards. Janet recommends it as an ideal starting point for pursuing the relaxing, therapeutic artform of calligraphy.
Janet will guide participants through the essential techniques of modern brush lettering and help students explore the creative possibilities of this hand and find their own personal style on paper.
Students will be introduced to recommended tools and shown how to use them effectively. Additional resources will be supplied for continued practice after the workshop.
